Butch-Femme Picnic

The fourth annual Butch Femme Picnic is an opportunity for Butch and Femme lesbians across generations to meet, share food, exchange stories, make crafts, play outside, and pour over collections of Butch Femme physical media. The event proposes a relaxed and inclusive afternoon celebrating lesbian relationship dynamics and their histories. —- This event is a gathering for Butch and Femme lesbians celebrating the autonomous gender roles we create in our communities and intimate lives. Butch and Femme identities were concretized by working class lesbians and trans people in the early twentieth century. Owing to this history, the Butch Femme picnic is multigenerational and invites participants to share their experiences as sources of knowledge about gender, sexuality, and the evolving placement of lesbians in society. Since femmes sometimes report feeling alienated in contemporary lesbian spaces, the event helps them find one another.
