The Altars We Carry: Stories, Archives & Digital Memory

What stories do we carry, and how do the tools we use shape the way we remember them?

Through the co-creation of temporary altars, storytelling, reflection, and collective witnessing, The Vices invite participants into a two-hour workshop exploring memory, identity, and intentionality. Beginning with our experiences as queer and BIPOC people navigating both analog and digital worlds, we will consider the ways our phones have become archives, altars, and storytelling devices.

Participants will be invited to share a photograph from their phone that holds personal meaning and contribute it to a collaborative altar. Together, we will explore the stories we tell ourselves, the stories we have inherited, and the stories we are still creating.

This intimate gathering centers care, consent, and connection, with no obligation to share beyond one’s comfort. The workshop concludes with a collective altar built from the stories shared.
